Sponsorship and Endorsement The New Covenant Presbyterian Weekday School is sponsored and operated directly under the supervision of the Session of New Covenant Presbyterian Church and its Children’s Ministry Team. The Session and the church, having sensed the need for strong Christian influences in our community, endorsed the organization of this school as an evangelistic arm of the Christian Church. It is their hope that its use will increase and its influence be felt widely throughout this community.
Program and Environment Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was a doctor, scientist and educator. Montessori opened the first Children’ House on January 6, 1907, using materials which were developed to work with retarded children and to occupy 30-40 preschoolers. By observation, she developed her theories and designed further equipment to facilitate the learning process. She noted the children’s desire to learn and perfect skills and the need for freedom of movement to accomplish this. Montessori felt that each child was special and unique and should be given the opportunity to learn specific skills quickly and easily, so the environment should contain all the elements necessary for the children’s growth and development. Our classrooms have eight distinct areas or centers that define the curriculum of the school. Our teachers direct the children in the use of the materials and encourage them to interact with the materials independently. This environment establishes the educational direction of the school. The areas include a Daily Living and Practical Life Area, Chapel, Math and Language Area, Art, Outdoor Play, Sensorial Area, Music, and Various Other Study Areas. The Weekday School offers two, three and five day programs. Children must have their 2nd birthday prior to October 1st for admission. Children entering the five day must be potty-trained. If you would like more information about the school or would like a tour for potential admission, please contact the Weekday School Staff as listed below.
